Professor Wei Jiang's Team Wins the 2026 IEEE PES Technical Committee Prize Paper Award

Recently, at the 2026 IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) General Meeting held in Montreal, Canada, the IEEE PES Renewable Systems Integration Coordinating Committee announced the results of the 2026 IEEE PES Technical Committee Prize Paper Award. The paper entitled “A Topology-Based Edge Computing Framework for Digital Power System Small-Signal Stability Analysis,” published in IEEE Transactions on Power Systems by Professor Wei Jiang’s team from the School of Electrical Engineering at Southeast University, received the award. The award recognizes outstanding papers of exceptional academic value in the technical fields covered by IEEE PES.


To address the computational and communication burdens faced by conventional centralized architectures in power system stability analysis amid the large-scale integration of distributed renewable energy resources, the award-winning paper develops an edge computing framework mapped to the power grid topology. The framework fully leverages the computing and communication resources of intelligent control and protection devices associated with distributed renewable energy resources by using them as edge computing nodes. Communication links are established between edge nodes according to the electrical adjacency relationships among renewable energy resources, thereby forming an edge computing network consistent with the power grid topology. This enables the partitioned identification and recursive merging of small-signal models for power systems with large-scale distributed renewable energy integration. The proposed framework reduces the computational and communication burdens on power grid control centers, improves the real-time performance of stability analysis, and effectively protects the privacy of operational data from individual distributed renewable energy resources. It provides technical support for the large-scale integration of distributed renewable energy resources and the digital transformation of power systems, offering significant theoretical importance and engineering application value.


Professor Wei Jiang is the corresponding author of the paper, Dr. Zhiqi Xu is the first author, and Professor Junbo Zhao of Dartmouth College in the United States is a co-author.
